it to happen to the rest of you. >> reporter: more details have emerged. connecticut's medical examiner says nancy lanza was shot in the head four times while she slept. adam lanza is believed to have shot himself in the head. in newtown, connecticut. >> new information now from the nra, the national rifle association broke its silence with a statement about the killings. the group said that nra members were quote, shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders. the nra has said it's offering meaningful contributions to make sure this never happens again. >> bay area state senator introduced a bill that would close major loopholes in california's assault weapons ban. the bill is similar to one last year that prohibits semiautomatic weapons. it will require yearly registration and backgrounds checks. a second bill will make it a requirement that store weapons have trigger locks. the white house says if president obama is also prepared to actively support reinstatement of a u.s. assault weapons ban. california senator diane feinstein plans to

victims of the newton, connecticut shooting. let's look at what is happening at fairfield inside the sikh temple. leaders wanted to honor the victims of the shooting and they are opening their doors to anyone who needs a place to mourn. this is one of many vigils we have seen since the shooting. we see people gathering at the sikh temple. it is welcome to anyone. >>> a noon service was held today for all those who needed a place. ktvu's john fowler was there as the cathedral was filled for those coming to grips with the tragedy. . live in newtown, connecticut, i'm randall pinkston. back to you. >>> randall, have investigators learned anything as to how adam lanza gained access to these high powered ammunition? >> reporter: we know that his mother obtained those weapons legally. they were applied for. she had to fill out a lot of paperwork to get them. we don't know whether she kept locked. we don't know whether he had permission to use them whenever he wanted to. we know she took him with her to shooting ranges several times over the course of the past several years. today we learned from investigators that both adam lanza and his mother had made visits to multiple gun ranges. so obviously, he was familiar with weapons with his mother's permission. whether he had access to those firearms, we can't say at this time. >> randall pinkston in newtown, connecticut, thank you. >>> schools throughout the bay area are reviewing their security procedures, following friday's tragedy in connecticut. ann notarangelo is in antioch where they admit there is a limit to what they can do to keep students safe. >> reporter:
